Day in the Life

The Learning Garden Homeschool Pod is a non traditional approach to education. We meet three days per week, for four hours per day. We focus on Literacy and Math. We combine structured curriculum with adaptability to meet each child's unique learning needs. For Literacy, we use the Moving Beyond the Pages curriculum to guide our learning along with self-created materials. Within this cross-curriculum curriculum, our Literacy lessons include reading, writing, grammar, spelling vocabulary, Social Studies and Science. For math, we use The Good and Beautiful curriculum to guide our lessons, and I additionally create supplemental materials. Each lesson is guided by these curriculums, but adjusted and tailored to each child’s learning styles and needs.

Does small group learning work for children with Dyslexia?

Yes!

It works well for children diagnosed with dyslexia, and for children who need a shorter school day to focus on cross-curricular work.

Navigating dyslexia can be confusing for both parents and children, but most dyslexic children have a high level of intelligence. With reading intervention methods such as Orton Gillingham, children can learn to read and excel in their learning before they reach the more rigorous years of middle and high school.

A shorter-more focused day, allows children to learn in an interdisciplinary way that requires less transition. This is good for all children, especially children with dyslexia who have a hard time retaining information when transitions interrupt their focus.

Homeschool Pod Calendar

Non-traditional learners deserve a non-traditional school day.

Our learning days happen three times per week from 9 a.m. until 1:00.

This leaves more downtime between academics for all of the wonderful experiences of childhood. Play is where some of the most important learning happens.
During our time, our cross-curricular approach allows us to accomplish much more academic understanding and growth than a traditional 8-hour day.

Important Calendar Dates

Our school year will consist of 35 weeks of learning from Labor Day to Memorial Day. This calendar leaves time for families to enjoy a long summer, where imagination and discovery create some of the longest-lasting childhood memories.

“Ms. Sami and the Learning Garden have been a huge blessing for my children. My daughter attended her homeschool pod for the second half of 2023-24 year. She loved it so much she convinced her younger brother to join for 2024-25 year. Both are thriving in their math, reading and writing.
Ms. Sami is able to give them one on one attention if a concept isn’t understood instead of being pushed through. They read wholesome, uplifting books individually and in group settings. My children are excited to attend each day. Ms Sami has mastered teaching in a manner that learning is enjoyable and not a chore for her students. "
