Individualized Services to Help Your Child Unlock their Learning Potential
Individual virtual tutoring is customized for each child. The session time varies depending on the student's needs. This type of tutoring is for enrichment, study skills, homework help, reteaching, beginning reading, study prep, and more.
What does a tutoring session look like?
Our tutoring sessions can vary from 30 minutes to 45 minutes to 60 minutes. Almost all of our sessions are individual sessions with one student and one experienced tutor. Every session is different, as every child is different! However, in a typical session, you can expect an introduction, where tutors make genuine connections with our students and check-in emotionally and socially. We present our students with a schedule or choice board, so children always know what to expect for the duration of our sessions. From there, we dive into the work, whether it be homework help, tutor-created lessons, or study skills in hands-on, engaging ways. Parents also receive work to be printed out (if necessary and requested) 24 hours in advance. We end sessions with a review and summary. Lastly, our tutors write up a “Session Review,” which details the lesson and activities covered during their chid’s session! This is sent to families by the end of each week.
Book Clubs
Book clubs are a staple with The Learning Garden tutoring! A book club typically runs for a month, where we complete one novel. Grab some friends and join in! Our current book clubs contain 2 - 3 children. At the beginning of the month, you will receive a novel overview that details which chapters are expected to be read by each book club session. Each week, you will additionally receive a packet of work emailed to you to guide your child’s reading. The work typically contains vocabulary and comprehension questions. While they are not required to complete the work prior to our sessions, they serve as a guide and help prepare your child for our discussions! During our sessions, we pose questions, review chapters, delve into character traits and motives, review challenging vocabulary words, and much more!
